Prepare Walls

The success of the wallcovering project will depend upon the condition of your walls before you begin. Therefore, take these necessary steps:

• Remove any old wallcovering. Wash off any grease or dirt and rinse with clear water.
• Remove picture hooks, light fixtures, and switch plates.
• Fill cracks and holes with spackling compound, let dry and sand smooth.
• Apply an acrylic primer/sealer, formulated for use under wallcovering. Ask your local dealer what type or brand they suggest. A primer/sealer creates a uniform wall surface that allows easier hanging and future removal. Follow these specific directions for your wall type:

Flat Painted—when clean, apply wallpaper primer/sealer
Glossy Painted—when clean, apply wallpaper primer/sealer
Newly Plastered—let dry 30-60 days, apply wallpaper primer/sealer
New Drywall—apply wallpaper primer/sealer
